About this course: This course is a part of the YMCA Trinidad and Tobago’s DIY (Do It Yourself) Series. This programme encourages young people and individuals with creative minds to come together to teach and unveil their skills and talents with others. ​
This course is 100% online. (With the exception of the optional venue site visits.)
Participants study from the comfort and safety of their homes. Anyone with internet/ data and a mobile phone, tablet, laptop or PC or access to these one day per week, can participate. Classes are interactive and engaging. Persons are encouraged to ask questions, to share their experiences and to present different views. Quieter participants can type their questions/ comments in the chat and they will be addressed.
Classes are recorded and shared so that if you unavoidably miss a class, you don’t have to miss out on learning.
Event Management Templates
As part of this course, you will be receiving *free* event planning tools/ templates such as an event budget template, an event checklist template, a detailed agenda/day of event flow template and more. You will be taught how to use these in the event planning process, with examples being given. You will receive these templates which you can save to modify and use in your future endeavors.
50+ page handout with Course content
Participants will receive a handout ( 50+ pages) for them to refer to as classes progress. Every topic discussed is included in the handout, and every assessment is based on information taught which is in the handout. The handout is yours to keep, study from and refer to.
Fun & Realistic Assessments
Please note firstly, that the final grade is based wholly and solely on the FINAL individual assessment. This is great because this assessment is based on your performance alone, so you cannot be unfairly or negatively affected by anyone else’s performance ( for example, in a group project) You would be given a lot of options to choose from, and you will select an event to plan ( in theory) for your project. Options include weddings, birthday parties, baby showers, NGO events/ fundraisers, Online events, Corporate social events, and corporate learning type events. Whichever type of events you are interested in, there would be an option for you to select to do your project in the Final Assessment. Before we reach the final assessment however, throughout the course, participants would engage in quizzes, group activities, in- class questions and more to ensure everyone is one the same page. However, these would not go towards your final grade.
Guest Speakers from the Events Industry
One of the topics you will be learning in this course is Vendor Relations, and as part of this topic there is a class in which we invite persons who work in the events industry to share their 3 experiences with participants. Vendors play a key and irreplaceable role in the event planning process, and how better to learn how to work with them than to hear it from them themself.
This particular class is usually a massive hit with participants as it is very interesting and informative hearing from caterers, decorators, photographers, bakers, rental company owners, and more!
Certificate of Achievement
This course is not an easy, “fly by night” course. However, your facilitator will be there with you along the way so there is no need to fear. The majority of participants rise to the occasion, apply themselves and pass with A’s and Bs. Your Final Assessment will bring out your creativity and your individuality as you make key choices for your event. When you receive your Certificate after passing your Final Individual Assessment, you will feel a sense of pride in knowing that you really put in effort for your Certificate.
These are NOT Certificates of Participation, they are Graded Certificates based upon your performance.
